With somewhat messy fondant icing covering the top layer of pastry and the bright yellow custard visible through the paper casing, I suspected the pastry itself might be a little soggy. I was right with my guess, but I was not expecting to be as surprised by the filling. In contrast the pastry was relatively well baked; a nice thickness, just not fresh and a little soggy (especially the middle layer). The filling however was the most curious I’ve experienced in a long while. A texture a little like cookie dough, with bits breaking away and a sliminess to it that made it a little stomach churning. It’s hard to analyse fully. The taste was almost non existent but just a little sweet if anything. The icing was clumsily applied and very average in contact to the filling. This was not a cheap product , selling at over five dollars. In contrast the coffees were decent. Certainly not a French vanilla slice as I know it, maybe a different part of France I’ve ver been to.
