Pastry: OK, but lacking butter content and a bit dry 6/10
Presentation: long, sticky and decoratively iced - not enough filling to pastry ratio 8/10
Value for money: $5.80, a pricey but lovely bakery 7/10
Overall score: 6.75/10
The bakery is pricey, but I don’t mind paying a bit of coin for a decent product that has been thoughtfully crafted. Whilst this had in many ways, it just wasn’t as good as it should have been. Noticeable at purchase were the quality and gloss of the icing in the sunshine, and the obvious pasty/custard ratio imbalance. This did affect the slice from the offset as the thickness and dryness of the pastry overpowered the lack of custard, and with it being set, an apparent lack of ooze also let me down. The icing was like quick sand, slowly consuming my fingers with each gripped bite. The icing was the best element by far; sticky, melty and loaded with quality bakers chocolate.
Mrs B opted for the innovative bannoffee eclair and enjoyed three quarters of it, until the sweetness got the better of her. We both agreed that the bakery was well worth the drive.
