Pastry: Quite soggy, unable to be picked up 5/10
Presentation: Thick passionfruit icing, clumsily decorated 6.5/10
Value for money: $5.50 - Medium portion, not fresh, somewhat satisfying 7/10
Overall score: 6.8/10
With my pie suitably washed down by my iced coffee I attempted a vanilla slice pickup. I soon found it to be passed it’s peak freshness and the pastry was too flexible. Instead I opted for a fork and dived in, knowing time was of the essence. With the pastry unable to be cut with the fork
I tore it away from the custard and ate all the layers separately, leaving the passionfruit iced top section for last. The custard Itself was pretty workable, sweet and thick, though nothing mind-blowing amazing. The final few mouthfuls consisted of soggy pastry with a very sweet, almost synthetic tasting passionfruit. I enjoyed the flavour of the pastry against the sweetness of the icing and the small amount of decorated chocolate left a notable aftertaste. A worthy stop and good sugar hit when driving long distances. Amazing pie as always.
