In one word: Synthetic
In the shadow of Brunetti's I thought I would try what I thought to be a very eggy vanilla slice. At $4.50 the pricing was good and the portion was generous, however what came next was a complete surprise. What hit me first was the nasty, gelatinous, almost syrup-like texture of the "custard". However custard would be the wrong choice of word here, as there was clearly something else at work; highly sweetened, almost banana flavoured blobs of horribleness. Then there was the numerous layers of dry, flavourless pastry. Sorry, but this just was not a vanilla slice, greatly mis-sold.
