Pastry: Pale and slightly thick but fresh 6/10
Presentation: Unassuming with seldom seen in QLD white icing 6/10
Value for money: $3.50 - Medium portion, fresh and better than expected 8.5/10
Overall score: 6.9/10
With a low price point of just $3.50, in all honesty I wasn’t expecting great things. Whilst this wasn’t great by any stretch, it was actually not bad and proved excellent value for money. The pastry was somewhat thicker than needed and quite pale in its bake, but it held up well with just the right firmness as to not cause a mess when bitten. The custard looked a little gelatinous, but was actually just thickened in viscosity and being cold in the cooled cabinet. It was surprisingly creamy and just the right sweetness against the pastry and icing when beaten all together. White fondant is very common in my old stomping ground of Victoria, but sparse in Queensland I have noticed. It was a welcome surprise to get a simple but well executed layer of icing that gave the slice a nice overall sweetness.
