Pastry: Dark and distinguished flaky layers 8.5/10
Presentation: Triple stacked and decoratively iced 8/10
Value for money: $4.70- medium portion size, messy but satisfying 9//10
Overall score: 8.4/10
I started by picking up the entire slice and taking careful bites as not to upset the balance of filling, but this proved a pointless task. The whole thing collapsed after a few more nibbles and I consumed the rest like a custard addict with no cutlery. Overall the slice was a pleasant experience and proved excellent value for money. The pastry was very dark, approaching the point of burntness, but was lacking the rich biscuity taste you sometimes get with similar patisserie products. Flaky and fresh nonetheless and good value with three layers. The custard was more like a fresh whipped vanilla cream, though it had a little more substance to it than that. A definite subtle vanilla taste present and airy and messy as you like. The French vanilla slice was proportionally excellent and finished with neat layer of decorated icing on top that gave the dark savoury pastry the sweet edge it needed to balance it out. I’ll be back, no doubt!
