Pastry: Neatly baked golden flakey layers 8/10
Presentation: Well assembled, oddly proportioned 7/10
Value for money: $6 (estimate) - Large portion, fresh but slightly disappointing 6.5/10
Overall score: 6.9/10
Both items were above average in size, the donut more than a one person job we later found out. The highly recommended slab of vanilla slice was short in stature but long in length with clearly well crafted pastry layers. It was decorated with a thin layer of dusted icing sugar, but in truth would have benefited from some thin fondant. The pastry was indeed fresh and crispy, easy to cut into bite size pieces and pick up to consume. The pastry allowed for a simple eat of the long, skinny and slightly set layer of custard. For me the custard was the biggest let down of the product. Though adequately fine and tasty enough it was not soft, light and decadent enough for me in comparison to other highly recommend snot blocks I’ve had in my time.
It would have been good to have a half size portion for $3, that would be excellent value for money. On a side note, the donut was everything you would want from an American donut - ceamy, sweet and doughy!
