Pastry: Underbaked and lacking flakiness 6/10
Presentation: Large rectangular breeze block, decorated fondant icing 8/10
Value for money: $6.50, medium/large portion size, very filling 6.5/10
Overall score: 7.25/10
Disappointingly the pastry wasn’t 100% up to the task and made the situation more precarious than expected. I had to eat the slice with a head tilted sideways action to avoid mass spillage. The layers were pale in colour and lacked firmness or flakiness. The filling was more cream than custard, though one might argue it was whipped cream custard. With a slight yellow hue there was obviously more to the filling than just cream, with a lovely vanilla sweetness and a richness that eventually caught up with me towards the end. The icing was delightful and my aftertaste was made up entirely of dark chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Had the slice not been so expensive I might have been tempted to score a little higher. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday anyway!
