Filling: Pedestrian bakery custard, slightly 'set' 5/10

Having already ticked Noisette and the Port Melbourne Bakehouse off the list last time I was down by the sea I opted for a slightly dubious looking French vanilla slice from The Port Bakehouse. I guessed that the custard might be a bit gelatinous from inside the cabinet, but I couldn't have predicted what was lurking on top of the slice. Three layers of tasteless and not 'crisp to the bite' layers of forgettable pastry were adhered by two layers of gelatinous custard that at least had some distinguishable vanilla essence in the mix. What really threw me, and nearly made me throw up having consumed the slice, was the camouflaged layer of marshmallow that was masquerading as cream on top. Don't get me wrong - I like marshmallow. I also like beer and pulled pork, but wouldn't want them as a topping either. Thanks, but no thanks.
