I had been tipped off that there was a Scot selling vanilla slices out the back of a refrigerated van at a farmers market in Heidleberg - This I had to see. The rumour was true and the vanilla slice was very good. Great pastry and a heavy lump of fresh, eggy custard. Freestyle eating in the sun was quite messy. A hint more of vanilla would make this one a challenger in the ongoing search.

Another disappointment. I'm not sure this one was baked on the same day as consumption. The stale pastry and very thick icing made this quite difficult to get a fork through. The saving grace was not the custard either - very average. |
