Pastry: Triple sideways stacked, functional 6.5/10
Presentation: Decorative and artisanal, tempered chocolate 8/10
Value for money: $6.90 - Medium portion, OK but overpriced 6/10
Overall score: 7.6/10
$6.90 is a a higher than average price point for a vanilla slice presented in a slightly more fanciful way, but I was hopeful of some good ingredients and flavours. Unfortunately I was slightly let down by the overall taste of the custard and the pastry really wasn’t anything to write home about. Though fresh and straight forward to cut and eat in chunks, the pastry was not caramelised or buttery. The custard too was lacking a richness and was quite pedestrian for a seemingly high end bakery. The whipped cream with tempered chocolate chard was a nice touch but was trying to cover up a rather average slice beneath. Certainly not a bad vanilla slice by any stretch, but it promised much more. I’d recommend the curry pie.
