Pastry: Thick and claggy 3/10
Presentation: Effort made to assemble, but somewhat misleading 6/10
Value for money: $5.80 - Medium portion, not the king of snot blocks 5/10
Overall score: 5/10
I ordered two cheese straws and one half decent looking vanilla slice. I only took a bite of one of the cheese straws as it was bland and stale, so not off to a good start.
The vanilla slice looked better, though I had my doubts with the thickness and colour of the pastry. It’s nice to see a half custard, half cream offering, and in fairness this ended up being the only thing I ate. The pastry was heavy, thicker than necessary and pale in its bake. The whole top layer of pastry with icing came loose so it was discarded early on. The custard was perfectly fine, creamy and sweet, but nothing overly memorable, the cream tasted like squirty cream from a can, so we hard to tell if it was indeed fresh, but my suspicions had me thinking otherwise. Not king by any stretch, and not cheap either.
