In one word: Sub-standard
I have been past this bakery in Pratt Street many times and resisted temptation to buy a vanilla slice. They apparently won a Pie Award in 2012...they certainly wouldn't win an award for their vanilla slices!
I thought that being a Saturday morning their pastries would have been baked fresh - nope. The three layers of pastry gave a full spectrum of textures - sticky, chewy and soggy. So much so that I actually dissected them into one thinner layer with just the custard and icing to consume, discarding the other two. The custard itself was OK, a bit of a vanilla flavour and not the worst texture ever, likewise with the icing. Overall, very sub-standard and poor that it wasn't baked fresh.
