My first judgement came when flipping the slice on to its side, the pastry though a good brown colour looked thick and bulky. After taking an even bite through all layers I assessed that the pastry was not going to get finished as it was far too tough and unnecessarily filling. The custard was delivered with the top layer of pastry with additional sugar content and was perfectly serviceable. It was creamy, a thick but not overly set consistency and had decent vanilla flavour. I completed my assignment with the bottom layer of pastry almost untouched and a beard full of dusted sugar. Worthy of a sample, but not particularly memorable.
