My third trip into Ripe in the picturesque Sassafras resulted in a rather average baguette followed by an underwhelming passionfruit topped vanilla slice. With no prices next to their large and diverse cake selection I had to guess the price of this by working backwards. The slice itself was OK; quite tasty, but lacking in finesse. The custard had vanilla bean running through but had been set to within an inch of it's life with gelatin. The pastry was below par and led me to believe that they were not freshly baked as one would hope. Sadly there was no crunch, flake or richness from their pale and slightly soft layers. Finally, the passionfruit icing; sweet, flavoursome and a nice thickness and a good addition.
