In one word: Cumbersome
I'd not been in the Union Deli & Cafe before but noticed their mounds of puffed pastry and custard in their window display. I bought a $4 slice and took it home to consume in privacy as I was expecting the contents to go everywhere and freestyling just wouldn't be worth the hassle. The density and viscosity of the sticky, whipped filling was very tiring and after eating half the slice I had to stop and put it to one side. The taste reminded me an awful lot of the vanilla clotted cream ice cream you can buy, and the puffed pastry was more crispy than it initially looked. An odd slice to look at and chomp through. Certainly not your run-of-the mill appearance, in no way unpleasant but just off the mark.
