I removed the triple layer beauty from its golden card tray and tipped it on its side, deciding that the only sensible way to eat it would be with cutlery. I glided the fork through the layers, noticing a gratifying crunch of fresh flaky pastry as it broke easily. The custard proved to be rich, eggy, creamy and with speckled vanilla bean and a hint of lemon in the mix. The pastry resembled a dark brown shortbread but was significantly more savoury in taste than some caramelised layers I’ve previously had from high-end patisseries. The icing was expertly decorated with a neat chocolate swirls, though the chocolate itself didn’t leave a notable lingering taste in my mouth when eaten.
Overall I loved the vibe at this bakery. Genuine quality radiated from the staff and products on offer. Some of the other pastries for sale looked divine, with Mrs B also recommending the Carmel eclair. A hidden gem in the northern end of The Gold Coast.
